Introduction

Digital Transformations for Health Lab (DTH-Lab) is a global consortium of academia, research, public and private sector actors aiming to strengthen digital and data governance to improve young people’s health and well-being and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As part of our vision to keep user data safe, the Privacy Policy of DTH-Lab aims to help users understand how data is collected, used, stored and protected. 

DTH-Lab adheres to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and is obligated to inform users about how data is processed and the legal protection afforded. This Privacy Policy relates to the Lab’s use of any personal information the Lab may collect via its website (https://dthlab.org/) or any of its platforms (please see the following section). At DTH-Lab, we respect users’ privacy and are committed to protecting their personal data.

How does DTH-Lab collect personal information?

DTH-Lab may collect personal information through the following means:

  • emails and written correspondence;
  • surveys and research forms;
  • website navigation;
  • email lists and newsletters;
  • social media;
  • offline interactions such as in-person events, paper forms…etc 

In almost all cases, users will be notified in advance when DTH-Lab is collecting personal information.

What personal information does DTH-Lab collect?

DTH-Lab may collect the following personal data:

  • name, country of origin and current location;
  • contact information: email address, passport data, phone numbers, postal or other physical addresses;
  • demographic information: age group, organisation (for representation purposes)physical data: gender, health requirements (for provision of suitable services);
  • professional information within and outside of your Curriculum Vitae, including current employment, past employment, education, and professional experience related to the purpose of the data collection;
  • additional information that may be necessary based on a case-by-case basis;
  • IP address or other personal information collected through website cookies.


Any additional collected information in specific cases will be clearly communicated, along with the reasoning behind its collection.

Why does DTH-Lab collect personal information

DTH-Lab may collect personal data to support our mission. These purposes include optimizing engagement, providing a better user experience during events and for conducting research endeavours.

These purposes can include but are not limited to:

  • understand audience needs and enhance experience in online and in person events;
  • improve DTH-Lab’s projects and initiatives;
  • send promotional emails to keep DTH-Lab’s subscribers informed about relevant updates and opportunities that we believe may interest them;
  • contact young people for research purposes: DTH-Lab may reach out to young people to participate in research activities that contribute to its mission or to ensure their credentials in any research they have participated in;
  • assess levels of population representation in DTH-Lab’s work;
  • events invitation: DTH-Lab may send invitations to events and activities;
  • archived for a specific duration of time to ensure legal liability based on a specific, previously agreed upon terms that are amicable to both DTH-Lab and related parties. 

Any other purposes for data collection will be clearly communicated to users during the process of data collection.

How does DTH-Lab protect personal information?

DTH-Lab is committed to ensuring the security of personal data. 

Personal information will only be used in accordance with the purposes for which consent was provided. Access to this data will be restricted to authorised personnel involved in the specified processes. Additionally, data will be promptly deleted within the timeframe communicated when consent is provided. 

Furthermore, DTH-Lab does not share personal data with third parties unless explicitly specified during data collection. In the event of any changes to the process, the Lab will seek consent, and users will retain full rights to decline participation. 

However, please note that parts of our website may contain external links to sites of organizations that support or partner with DTH-Lab. DTH-Lab is not responsible for external privacy policies. DTH-Lab encourages users to check these external organisation’s privacy policies before engaging in any activities.

Where does DTH-Lab store personal information?

Personal data is typically stored in DTH-Lab’s protected Google Workspace drive and Mailchimp account when collected. Unless explicitly specified during the data collection process, these are the only locations where personal data is stored. If there is a need to store it elsewhere, DTH-Lab will inform users at the time of data collection. 

In the case that DTH-Lab is collaborating with an external partner organization who also requires access to participant data, the sharing of data with that organization will be specified during the data collection process. In this instance, users are aware of which partnering organizations will also have access to users’ personal information, ensuring its confidentiality.

How long does DTH-Lab keep personal data?

DTH-Lab will only retain personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the collection purposes. Users will be informed of this period during the data collection process, including for the purposes of meeting any legal, accounting or reporting requirements.

Users Rights

Users have the right to: 

  • request access to personal data
  • request correction of personal data
  • request deletion of personal data
  • object to processing of personal data
  • request restriction of processing personal data
  • request transfer of personal data
  • withdraw consent at any time
